APS has named Kenton Elementary Principal Linda Harvey as the APS 2008 Distinguished Principal of the Year. The award recognizes successful principals who have provided outstanding leadership.
Harvey has served as Kenton principal for 16 years. Under her leadership, Kenton Elementary has seen an increase in student achievement, including some of the highest CSAP scores in the northwest part of the district. In addition to improving student learning and supporting teacher development, Harvey has helped to build strong parent, community and business involvement at Kenton.
"Linda brings a passion to the field of education," said APS Student Achievement Director Amy Weed. "That, coupled with her knowledge and experiences, makes her an invaluable professional colleague and an asset to Aurora Public Schools."
Harvey will now be nominated for the Colorado National Distinguished Principal of the Year, coordinated by the Colorado Association for School Executives.
"It is a privilege and honor to be selected as the APS 2008 Distinguished Principal of the year. The work of a principal is challenging, demanding, and rewarding, to say the least, but I LOVE IT! After 28 years in the education profession and 16 years as Kenton's principal, I could not have achieved this honor without the help of our staff, parents and community members."
