Melissa Hughan

Hi I am Melissa J. Hughan, and I am starting my fourth year as a Special Education DLC (Diverse Learning Centers) Teacher at Kenton Elementary, and my fifth year in APS. I’m a small town girl from southwestern Kansas that attended Fort Hays University where I earned a B.A. in Sociology. I moved here after college, and after being here for over 11 years moved to Texas. While living in Katy, TX I worked for four years for Katy ISD. While in a Special Education para educator position, I earned my teacher certification and moved into a position of a Special Education Resource teacher. Upon moving back to Aurora I worked in Cherry Creek School District as a para educator at Polton Elementary in their Pre-school Autism program. From there I joined APS’s team as a para educator in the Special Education DLC classroom at Elkhart Elementary and jumped at the opportunity to join the Kenton team as a Special Education DLC Teacher, which I truly enjoy and believe in the importance of the learning opportunities that I have the privilege to give my amazing students!! Outside of teaching I love going to church, spending time with son who is now in college and studying Engineering, watching & cheering him on while he plays basketball, going to the gym to strength train and doing yoga. My job is to accelerate learning to every APS student, every day. I do my job by providing a safe inclusive learning environment that encourages effective diverse learning opportunities for each one of my students. My community needs me to do my job.
