Dear Current and Future Kenton Families,
Welcome back or welcome to a school that has caring and highly qualified staff. This year promises to be engaging, energizing, and exciting for both staff and students. Building and extending students academic and social characteristics are our ultimate goals and responsibility. Thank you in advance for allowing us to work together to ensure your child’s education at Kenton is productive and supportive of academic growth and sets the stage for future higher educational dreams.
Parent involvement is essential to a child’s school success. We encourage all parents to take an active role in your child’s education via parent/teacher conferences, parent meetings, field trips, special programs, reading monthly newsletters, overseeing regular attendance, and ensuring your child reads at home each night. At Kenton we encourage parents to visit the classrooms and ask questions as our doors are always open to parents. Feel free to schedule a parent/teacher conference anytime throughout the year. There will be a variety of opportunities for you to support your child during the school year and you wouldn’t want to miss any of these exciting moments of your child’s school life.
A consistent focus at Kenton is to promote and accelerate students to grade level proficiency in reading, writing, and math. Regularly reading with your child and to your child will support achievement goals and increase APS’s graduation rate. Research shows the more students read and write the better readers and writers they will become. Allow your child opportunities to practice math on a daily basis, such as estimating how much two items will cost or creating a saving plan for a much wanted toy. Educating our children is everybody’s business and is our number one priority.
Finally, I want to share an old African proverb, it states: “It takes a village to raise a child.”
Welcome to the Kenton Village. The Kenton staff and I look forward to our educational partnership and in assisting each other in the best interest of our village and its citizens.
Sincerely,
Linda Harvey
